Communication and Culture
The point of departure for KIeM's scientific work on intercultural management is the recognition that the communication, forms of interaction, behaviour and practices of individuals and organisations in business life are also an expression of culture. They are thus closely related to the beliefs, values, attitudes and meanings which underlie the national and / or organisational cultures in question.
This phenomenon in turn influences the intercultural communication and interaction which occur when individuals and organisations from different cultures attempt to work together. Although such intercultural communication and cooperation processes sometimes lead to synergies and creativity, they are often experienced by those involved in international business and management as difficult and, indeed, are frequently dysfunctional.
