The DSH German Language Test

Applicants for study programmes entirely in English don't need any German language proof.


The DSH test is quite a demanding test and to prepare for it you are advised to take special preparatory classes.

In case of failure you can repeat the DSH test only once.

Dictionaries or other means of assistance are not permitted.

There is a fee of 50,- EURO. It is to be paid upon signing in on the day of the test. Please do not send or transfer money ahead of time.

These are the grades:

  DSH-3,
     for reaching at least 82 % 

    DSH-2,
     for reaching at least 67 %

    DSH-1,
     for reaching at least 57 %


DSH-2 or DSH-3 are required for admission to university. Admission to university is not possible with DSH-1

Admission to the DSH

To be admitted to the DSH test a German language certificate is required equivalent to at least:

  • Level Mittelstufe I or
  • Level B 2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) 

To enrol for the DSH test you can submit a certificate of participation in a language course of an appropriate level.

The latest possible date for submitting the required language certificate is two weeks prior to the date of the DSH test
