Institute for Optical Systems (IOS)

The Institute for Optical Systems at HTWG Konstanz deals with a prestigious cross-section of current optical technologies. Emphasis lies on a systems approach that calls for complete coverage of all important areas in industry.

The objective of the IOS is to be a competent contact for all optical systems, from lighting technology to optical measuring techniques to image processing.

Institute for Professional Writing (IPS)

As an institute of the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, the IPS investigates how we communicate with words, presentations and images.  Which interactions are involved?  How does this communication become professional? How can it be conveyed, especially in terms of complicated subjects, as in the communication of science and technology?  The IPS deals with – in a pragmatic sense – writing in both theory and in practice, with rhetoric from texts, presentations and images.

A project/work of this kind has to be interdisciplinary in nature. This in turn has implications for both analysis and methodology. One theoretical basis and methodological anchor is the knowledge that has been developed and established in the field of rhetoric.  These theoretical and methodological reference points are the foundation for classroom discussions and inquiries in this program.

Institute for System Dynamics (ISD)

A variety of complex questions regarding applied research are characterized by the combination of taking measurements, processing generated signals and controlling or regulating dynamic systems. The primary focus in various fields is the need to ensure the optimization of developed or applied algorithms and operations.

The Institute for System Dynamics (ISD) in Konstanz supports research and development in the fields of control technology, signal processing and optimization of dynamic systems.  The subject area spans from acoustics in mechatronics and robotics to energy management.

Center for Materials Systems Technology (ZWST)

WIK:
The Institute for Materials Systems Technology (WIK) is concerned with the interaction between materials and their surrounding mediums.
Materials, production processes and operations are considered and analyzed as a system.  Engineers from all disciplines are available at the University of Applied Sciences for such system analysis.

WITG:
The title Materials Systems Technology consists of all aspects having to do with materials, especially the interaction between materials and their surroundings.  In addition, it is of utmost importance in industrial practice to understand and analyze production processes and operations as a system. This consideration is the main focus of the work done by WITG.

Easy access to appropriate know-how with a great amount of flexibility enables incredibly innovative projects and research that focus on the individual needs of the client.

As an ideal interface between research and practical application, the WITG implements quick and cost-effective product development and corresponding operations and applications in direct cooperation with clients.  That is how the WITG has established itself, after only a few years, as a research and test institution for small and medium-sized companies in the metal and plastic manufacturing business.
