TestDaF

The TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdssprache) is recognized by all Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. It can replace the DSH.

Who organizes the TestDaF Test?
The TestDaF test is designed by the TestDaF-Institut. (http://www.testdaf.de) and organized by TestDaF centers all over the world. The Hochschule Konstanz does not offer the TestDaF.

What is the TestDaF test comprised of?
There are 4 parts to the TestDaF test:

  • Reading Comprehension (60 minutes)
  • Listening Comprehension (40 minutes)
  • Writing skills (60 minutes) 
  • Speaking skills (30 minutes)

What are the results?
You can achieve the following levels:

  • TestDaF level 5 (TDN 5)
  • TestDaF level 4 (TDN 4)
  • TestDaF level 3 (TDN 3)
  • Below level 3

You are given a result for each part of the test.
The best result is TDN 5

What results do I need for admission to a University of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg?
The average result must be at least TDN 4
Example:

  • Reading Comprehension TDN 3
  • Listening Comprehension TDN 3
  • Writing skills TDN 5
  • Speaking skills TDN 5

All parts of the test must be at least TDN 3

Where can I take the TestDaF Test?
There are TestDaF centres all over the world.

In Konstanz there are currently 2 TestDaF centres: (http://www.humboldt-institut.org) and Carl Duisberg Centren in Radolfzell.

When can I take the TestDaF?
The TestDaF can be taken 6 times a year. You will find the dates on the website (http://www.testdaf.de).  The deadline for enrolling is 4 weeks prior to the test.

When will I get the results?
You will get the results about 6 weeks after the test.

What is the fee?
The fee for taking the TestDaF test in Germany is 150 euros. For more details see the TestDaF centers.

How often can I take the TestDaF test?
You may take the TestDaF test as often as you wish.
