Application Process

Each year, the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences hosts around 120 exchange students from around the world who come to study for one or two semesters. The advantages of our exchange programs include an easier and simplified admission process, acknowledged courses and exams by the home university, and dorm rooms in Konstanz specifically designated for incoming exchange students.

If you are a student of one of our international partner universities who is interested in an exchange program at the HTWG Konstanz, please consult the International Office of your home University for further information on how to apply for an exchange program at the HTWG Konstanz.

In order to apply for an exchange program at the HTWG Konstanz, please submit the following documents to the International Office at your home university:

  • International exchange student application form
  • Application form for student housing
    • Important: In order to secure a room in one of the dormitories run by the local company, Seezeit, students need to transfer 550 Euros in advance to the following bank account  Please keep in mind that you have to pay transfer fees. Ask your bank about how much the fees are and pay accordingly a higher amount.
      Note: You only need to type your name in the "personal reference" field - not the room number. Seezeit, the student housing company will contact you with further details.
  • Proof of having paid the security deposit for student housing to Seezeit
  • Copy of your passport; Please note: Your current passport must be valid for at least 3 months past the date you plan to leave Konstanz / the European Union. You must be at least 18 years old at the beginning of the exchange period in Konstanz. If you have dual citizenship, please send us copies of both passports.
  • Financial proof for the whole duration of your stay at the HTWG Konstanz (minimum: € 853 per month) which can either be:
    1. A current income statement/bank statement of a parent AND a copy of the Parental Statement which must be signed by the parent with a regular income! or
    2. A scholarship confirmation
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) / ré­su­mé
  • Academic transcript
  • Letter of interest
  • 2 passport photos (not older than 6 months). For email application: 1 passport photo (jpeg format)
  • German language certificate (indicating your German language level) if required for the study abroad period
  • ERASMUS students only: Copy of the European Health Insurance Card
  • Design students only: a minimum of 5 work samples

Please note that your application may not be accepted if some documents are missing!


Application Deadline

June 15 for fall semester (September/October – February)
December 01 for spring semester (March – July)

Once you have been accepted by the International Office/Study Abroad at your home university, your application will be forwarded to the International Office at the HTWG Konstanz.
