  • Are my qualifications / diplomas sufficient to apply to the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences?

Refugees can bring their diplomas / certificates to the Studienkolleg to have them checked and verified.

In order to apply to study at the HTWG Konstanz, students need the qualifications required to study at a German college or university. The Studienkolleg checks whether your qualifications (diplomas, certificates) from your home country are sufficient to apply or whether you need to participant in the Studienkolleg program before applying. You can find more information by clicking here.

    Any questions? Ask:

    Mon-Fri: 9:30am - 11:30am & Weds: 14:00pm - 15:00pm

How do I get my diplomas/certificates verified?

You need to bring the following to the Studienkolleg:

    • Translated (English or German), notarized (meaning they have an official stamp from the “Bürgerbüro”-  you can make an appointment there for this purpose) copies of your diplomas/certificates
    • Completed request form (download here)
    • Curriculum vitae and residence permit
    • If you already have it: proof of your current language proficiency level

  • How good does my German need to be?

In order to study at the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences (or other universities with very few exceptions), you need the C1 University level.

This proficiency level will make it easier for you to understand the content and technical language in lectures and to get off to a good start in your studies.

A C1 University level means a score of at least 16 points on the TestDaF or a DSH 2 or 3 on the DSH test.

Important: You can already apply before you take the test, however you need to submit the TestDaF score to the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences before the start of the semester (by March for the spring semester; September for the fall semester)!

  • Auditing classes - improve your academic language skills and make first contacts

You’re not really sure what you want to study? Would you already like to start learning the specialized language in a major while you’re taking the language course and waiting to start your studies?

As an auditing student (Gasthörer), you can attend individual seminars and lectures for free (which you have selected with a contact person in the corresponding department) - the only condition is that you commit yourself to attend regularly.

Auditing classes BEFORE you start your studies is a great opportunity to get in contact with Germans and improves the likelihood that you will be successful at our university.

It’s like a “trial study” in which the tests don’t yet count. By the time your studies officially get under way, you already know your way around campus and maybe even made some friends.

If you’re interested in auditing classes, you need to select the classes you want to take in the department of your choice and additionally turn in a short application (which includes a motivational essay and your residence permit) to the Admissions Office.
