HTWG Konstanz campus closed due to coronavirus

March 16, 2020

The HTWG Konstanz administration and crisis team have decided that as of Monday, March 16, 2020 6.00 pm, the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences will be closed and in emergency mode. This decision was made based on the current developments regarding the coronavirus. Unfortunately we cannot estimate how long this will last, however the campus will be closed at least until April 19, 2020.

The following rules shall apply during the period of emergency operation:

It is no longer permitted to enter any buildings on the HTWG Konstanz campus as of Tuesday March 17, 2020, 12 p.m. The only exceptions to this rule are for staff involved with maintaining the emergency services for our university. We are currently discussing which persons will carry out these duties with the heads of the different departments and facilities.

No classroom courses will take place on the HTWG Konstanz campus.

No HTWG Konstanz conferences, workshops or any other public events will take place (neither on nor off campus) during this time. All committees, commissions and working groups that normally meet in person have been suspended.

No tests of any kind may be administered on the HTWG Konstanz campus. We are currently considering whether oral tests in small groups can be taken online during this period of emergency operation.

The library will also be closed. You can find additional information at the HTWG Konstanz library website.

As soon as this emergency mode goes into effect, all HTWG Konstanz faculty and staff are expected to work remotely from their home offices. This means that you will continue to work normal hours from home - and specifically that you will be available during the core working hours between 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Direct supervisors must additionally be able to reach their staff at all times if necessary (e.g., via their home or mobile phone). Student assistants should also try to do their work from home as much as possible.

We at the HTWG Konstanz are aware that the current situation may be challenging in terms of child care - that working at home and taking care of your children are not always compatible. However, we hope that the home office option can help to ease the situation we’re currently facing.

Office hours should take place via email or, if necessary, on the phone. This is particularly relevant for departments and personnel that offer student advising, as well as for personal assistants.
