Master's Program Architecture

The master’s program is set up for 4 semesters. Three interdisciplinary 1-semester projects form the heart of the program and deal with current topics and construction tasks focusing on urban planning, design and construction. The modular structure of the program takes credits accumulated from lectures, seminars and self-study into consideration for a total of 30 credits per semester.
Students can create their own program by selecting courses from the elective modules of the 6 subject areas: History and Theory, Artistic Fundamentals and Architectural Representation, Design, Urban Planning, Construction and Engineering as well as Planning and Building Management. Students choose their own master’s thesis topic.

In addition to the theoretical course work, students can choose from a wide range of foreign language courses. A special highlight of the semester is the »Block Week«, when students take a break from normal classes and participate in a series of workshops and excursions together with the students in Communication Design.
The working atmosphere in the department is forged by the studio concept: Each student in our program has their own working space in the studio for their semester group. This is where lectures, seminars and group exercises take place.
The proximity to Austria and Switzerland, both with their award-winning and innovative architecture, makes for a rich excursion program. A close network of contacts to other universities as well as regular summer programs in Europe and around the world add the dimension of internationality to the program and to students’ career opportunities.
