Certificate International Studies
We offer a certificate for international studies (Zertifikat Studium International) consisting of three modules that prepare you for working professionally in an international environment. Students who complete the three modules receive the certificate international studies. What are the advantages of the certificate?
- You gain invaluable intercultural skills to help you work professionally in foreign countries.
- The certificate provides you with a confirmation of having participated in activities that you can use when applying for jobs in the future.
- Last but not least, international exchange is simply fun: you make new contacts and learn new things.
Module 1: Intercultural Awareness (Encounters and Experience)
Semester abroad, international internship or study abroad program in Germany for foreign students (minimum length:12 weeks). In addition to receiving confirmation of your time abroad (internship agreement, transcript, etc.), participants are expected to write a description of their experiences from an intercultural perspective (approx. 4 pages). To help you in the writing process, we can provide you with a set of orientation questions and a sample report.
Take a language course at the HTWG Konstanz (1 semester, minimum 2 hours/week). If you choose this option, you must pass the final exam in the language course to successfully complete the module. Please provide us with a print-out of your transcript as confirmation.
Important information regarding the language courses:
Students should decide at the beginning of the course if they are taking the course as a module for the certificate or, for example, taking it as an elective. A double confirmation (module and ECTS points) is not possible. If you take the course for the certificate, you have to register for it as an additional course (“Zusatzfach”).
Module 2: Intercultural Reflection
The second module is intended to provide students with essential intercultural skills. To achieve this, students take an introductory course in intercultural skills taught in the form of a compact seminar (2 SWS). This intercultural workshop is offered each semester in our Extracurricular Studies Program (Studium Generale).
The workshop takes place on October 18/19 and 25 in the winter semester, 2019/20.
Important information regarding the intercultural workshop:
Students must decide at the beginning of the course if they are taking the course as a module for the certificate or, for example, taking it as an elective. A double confirmation (module and ECTS points) is not possible. If you take the course for the certificate, you have to register for it as an additional course (“Zusatzfach”).
Information for BAC or BAS Students
Students in the Asian Studies and Management China (BAC) or Asian Studies and Management South Asia and Southeast Asia (BAS) programs who have already completed their year abroad can offer and carry out a workshop unit by themselves. Please arrange this with us first. The planning and carrying out of the workshop unit is counted towards the certificate.
Module 3: Intercultural Action
This module requires students to participate in a 1-semester project on intercultural involvement offered by the Intercultural Center. The following activities are possible this semester:
- Participation in the Twin Program
- Taking part in the Helping Hand group
- Implementing your own ideas
The only condition is that you can confirm that your activity took place. This confirmation can be in the form of a certificate of participation (e.g., from Helping Hand), a meeting with us, or a report written from an intercultural perspective. If you implement your own ideas together with other students, a protocol form containing a list of the meeting dates and the division of tasks is required. This protocol form must be signed by all members in the group.
