Antisemitism, including in its radical and anti-hegemonic forms, has been embraced and tolerated in German universities in the past. Antizionism, the projection of a Jewish face onto the evils of imperialism and racism, was an official ideology in the DDR and it is on the rise again today. Largely re-imported from the UK and the US, partially via Israeli Jewish antizionism, antizionism constructs its own caricature of Israel onto which it projects all that postnational Europe wishes that it has transcended: racism, ethnic nationalism, colonialism, Nazism and apartheid.

Antisemitism is a significant issue, which in keeping with the logic of antizionism, is often absent from today's discussions about diversity and inclusion on campus. David Hirsh will lead a discussion about campaigns to exclude Israelis from our campuses and to de-legitimise those who hear echoes in these campaigns of older antisemitisms.
