At HTWG, diversity is both an integral part of the university’s culture and a strategic priority. Different perspectives, life experiences, and realities enrich student life, teaching, research, and administration.
The university is committed to highlighting diversity and fostering an inclusive environment that is sensitive to issues of discrimination. The goal is to identify structural barriers, address differences in a thoughtful manner, and create an environment that ensures equal opportunities for all members of the university community.
What does diversity mean?
Diversity encompasses various dimensions of human identity and life circumstances—including gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social background, disability, age, religion, and worldview.
An intersectional and discrimination-sensitive understanding of diversity means taking into account the interactions between different dimensions of diversity and critically reflecting on existing power dynamics and inequalities.

- Change of First Name and Gender Designation
Students who have changed their first name and/or gender designation under the Self-Determination Act (SBGG) can also have their information updated at HTWG.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. In order to change your name and/or gender on record at HTWG, you must first obtain documentation from the civil registry office confirming the change to your information in accordance with the SBGG.
2. With this proof, you can contact the administrative office for your degree program. You can do this either informally by email or in person.
3. You can submit an online request for a name change through the Campus Portal at the Student Affairs Office.
4. To change your email address, please contact the Data Center separately by email at rechenzentrum@htwg-konstanz.de.
5. To ensure that your new data is also imported into Moodle, please contact the IT Center as well.
6. Finally, you can apply for a new Zack card at the Office of Student Affairs
Important!
If you change your name during the current semester, we recommend that you proactively and promptly notify your instructors so that your name can be updated accordingly on attendance lists and other relevant documents.
The Self-Determination Act (SBGG)
The new Self-Determination Act has been in effect since November 1, 2024, allowing trans*, inter*, and non-binary individuals to change their name and gender designation without complications. It replaces the previous Transsexuals Act (TSG) of 1980, thereby simplifying this process for those affected.
From now on, psychological evaluations and court proceedings are no longer required—the change can now be made independently and autonomously by submitting a declaration to the civil registry office.
