    The University

    Equality

    At HTWG Konstanz

Through its gender equality initiatives, HTWG Konstanz aims to ensure equal opportunities and fair participation in academic studies, teaching, research, and administration.
Gender equality is structurally embedded at HTWG as a cross-cutting priority and is also an integral part of the university’s culture. Central and decentralized stakeholders collaborate across the university to promote equal opportunities and combat discrimination.

    What does equality mean?

Equality means ensuring equal opportunities and prospects for development for all people and eliminating structural disadvantages.
At universities, equality particularly concerns access to higher education, academic careers, and leadership positions. The goal is a university culture that is sensitive to discrimination, in which diversity is visible and individual potential is fostered.

    Equality at HTWG - Overview

Strategic objectives, concrete support services, and quality-assured procedures are interlinked and form the foundation for sustainable gender equality efforts. The following sections provide an in-depth look at the services, principles, and management tools.

    Basics and Responsibilities

Legal, Strategic, and Institutional Foundations of Gender Equality Work.

    • Legal and Strategic Foundations

Gender equality efforts at HTWG are based on the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act (LHG). Among other things, this Act requires universities to develop a gender equality plan and to institutionally embed gender equality structures.
Gender equality is structurally embedded at HTWG as a cross-cutting priority and is integrated into strategic planning and decision-making processes.

    • Equality Plan

The Gender Equality Plan serves as the central strategic foundation for gender equality efforts at HTWG. It defines objectives, areas of action, and measures to promote equal opportunity and is updated regularly.Link to the current gender equality plan (PDF German)

    • Objectives

The HTWG aims to continuously strengthen the representation of women and structural equality in all areas of the university.
      This includes, in particular:

      • increasing the proportion of women in leadership roles
      • Increasing the proportion of female professors
      • Supporting the next generation of scientists
      • the further development of a university culture that is sensitive to discrimination

The target values are regularly reviewed and refined.

    Management and Further Development

Structural integration, quality-assured processes, and continuous improvement.

    • Institutional Anchoring

At HTWG, gender equality is structurally integrated into key decision-making and management processes. The Office for Gender Equality & Diversity is a staff unit reporting directly to the President and is thus closely linked to the university’s strategic developments.
The Gender Equality Officer is integrated into relevant committees and procedures. This ensures that gender equality is continuously taken into account as a cross-cutting issue.

    • Equal Opportunity Hiring Procedures

Gender equality considerations are mandatorily integrated into key selection and decision-making processes. This includes, in particular, tenure-track appointments, in which transparent criteria, standardized procedures, and the involvement of the gender equality officers are structurally embedded.
The goal is to ensure fair, transparent, and discrimination-sensitive procedures.

    • Monitoring and Controlling

The trends in key performance indicators are regularly tracked and analyzed. These include, in particular, the representation of women in various status groups, as well as trends in leadership roles and professorships.
The results are incorporated into reports, performance agreements, and strategic planning, and form the basis for evidence-based further development.

    • Continuous Improvement

Gender equality measures are reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed. New areas of focus are identified, and existing tools are further developed.
This ensures that gender equality efforts remain aligned with societal developments and changes within the university.
