The pricing of greenhouse gas emissions is considered an efficient and socially acceptable way to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.  The lecture describes the concept of CO2 pricing in theory as well as the practical implementation through the European emissions trading EU ETS and the German emissions trading nEHS. The main differences between a cap-and-trade emissions trading and a CO2 tax will be presented. Furthermore, different possibilities of using the revenues and their distributional effects on the population are discussed.
