    Between computer science and business administration

    In the Business Information Technology degree program, you will be trained as a generalist, so to speak as a bridge-builder between application, computer science and management. The study content is broad and interdisciplinary. You will gain a sound knowledge of both IT management and the use of IT in order to implement efficient business processes in companies - both theoretically and practically. In addition, you will expand your methodological and problem-solving skills as well as key qualifications.

    Course of studies in Business Information Technology

    The study program comprises four semesters (120 ECTS).

    • Adaptation studies (30 ECTS)

      The purpose of the adaptation studies is - depending on the undergraduate studies - to catch up on core subjects of business information systems. Since some subjects of the adaptation study are based on each other in terms of content, you are free to take courses from the adaptation study also in the second or even third semester. However, since the content of the adaptation studies is partly the basis for the courses from the regular semesters, we recommend that you take, if possible, the subjects of the adaptation studies within the first two semesters.

    • Compulsory and elective courses (20 and 40 ECTS) incl. a team project lasting two semesters

      In addition to regular courses, the compulsory part includes a seminar course, which has the goal that you learn and deepen your scientific work, as well as a two-semester team project, in which you work together in a small group on a challenging project chosen by you.

      In the elective area, you can individually compile your subjects from a wide range of current topics, such as ERP business processes, IT law or security management.

    • Master thesis and examination (30 ECTS)

      You will complete your master degree with a six-month thesis - at the university or in cooperation with a company - as well as an oral examination.

    You have the possibility to integrate stays abroad into your studies. Comparable study achievements can be recognized after prior approval.

    Career profile and perspectives

    Skills: In the Business Information Technology degree program, you have gained in-depth knowledge of both IT management and the use of IT to implement efficient business processes in companies - both theoretically and practically. In addition, you have developed your methodological and problem-solving skills as well as key qualifications.

    Occupations: You are trained as a generalist, so to speak as a bridge-builder between application, computer science and management, since the study contents are broad and interdisciplinary. As a graduate, you will be able to plan, create, introduce, use and optimize business information systems and thus support the creation of corporate value. In addition to activities in system analysis, planning and IT organization, you can also take on qualified tasks in IT sales, training and consulting as well as in IT management. The program profile is primarily targeted towards a career in business, but research is also possible.

    Career: The degree program opens up excellent career opportunities as well as outstanding earning and development potential. Your skills are in demand at companies in all industries. The degree offers you a high degree of flexibility in the job market and also very good conditions for self-employment. The master degree also eligibes you to obtain a doctorate.

    Admission requirements

    You need an undergraduate degree (at least 180 ECTS) in computer science or business administration or in a related field of study with a grade of 2.4 or better (according to the German system - for transfer please contact the so-called Studienkolleg). Excluded from this is the study program Business Information Systems / Business Informatics or a comparable study program in terms of content.

    • 1. Degree in computer science

      1. With a degree in computer science, at least 100 ECTS credits in computer science subjects must be credited. This must include:
      a) Basics of computer science
      b) Programming
      c) Algorithms and Data Structures
      d) Databases

    • 2. Degree in business administration

      2. With a degree in business administration, at least 100 ECTS credits in business administration subjects must be credited. This must include:
      a) Basics of business administration
      b) Accounting
      c) Supply Chain Management
      d) Controlling

    • 3. Degree in a study field related to computer science and/or business administration

      3. In the case of a degree in a degree program related to computer science and/or business administration, at least 100 ECTS credits in computer science subjects and/or business administration subjects must be proven, whereby this must include at least four from the subjects listed under No. 1 a to d and No. 2 a to d.

    Selection process

    Admission to the program is granted on a selection process. This includes the final grade of the undergraduate university degree, special previous education as well as relevant professional experience in the application or creation of business information systems that you have gained after your undergraduate studies. The best applicants will be invited to a personal selection interview in which their motivation and personal impression will be evaluated.     You can start your studies in the winter and summer semester. The application deadline for the winter semester is June 1st of the respective year, for the summer semester it is December 1st.
