    The Intercultural Center (IKZ)

    Internationalization is a key part of what we do at the HTWG Konstanz. One of the key elements of our internationalization focus is the Intercultural Center (IKZ). The IKZ aims to connect international students and bring German and international students in contact with one another.  The IKZ offers foreign degree-seeking students and refugee studentsa wide range of support both before and during their studies at the HTWG Konstanz, as well as preparing them for professional careers.

    Specific Information for Refugees

    The Intercultural Center also supports refugees who want to study at the HTWG Konstanz. If you are a refugee, you can get help with your application, have foreign diplomas verified, acquire the necessary language skills, sign up to audit classes, and much more.     Please note:

    The tuition costs for international students from outside the EU/EWR are 1,500 € per semester. You can find detailed information about exceptions and exemptions here (information currently only in German available).

    Applicants with Foreign Diplomas

    • Non-German Citizens

      Foreign students applying for bachelor’s programs at the HTWG Konstanz who have completed school and university degrees abroad need to have their qualifications verified by the Studienkolleg Konstanz (STK) before they apply.

      This is required even if you have already successfully passed a “Feststellungsprüfung”, the DSH-test or TestDaF somewhere other than at the HTWG Konstanz.

      You can first check if your educational background entitles you to study in Germany directly or if you first need to attend the Studienkolleg preparatory program. For information about how your educational credentials will be assessed and whether you can immediately start your studies, go to www.anabin.kmk.org.

      All HTWG Konstanz applicants must have advanced B2 or C1 German language skills in order to be admitted to a degree program where most courses are taught in German.

      Your application will only be processed once you have turned in the appropriate German language proficiency certificate (link to a German website), such as the DSH (minimum of DSH-2) or a comparable test (TestDaF: 4.0, telc: German C1 University). You can however turn in your application before taking the exam. Simply include a document stating that you have registered for such an exam with your application. The exam must take place before the start of your studies.

    • German Citizens

      German citizens who completed their secondary education  abroad need to have their diplomas verified by the:

      Students who completed a university degree abroad, need to have this verified by the Central Office for Foreign Education in Bonn.

      Please note that your application will only be processed once you have turned in the appropriate German language proficiency certificate (link to a German website!), such as the DSH (minimum of DSH-2) or a comparable test (TestDaF: 4.0, telc: German C1 University). It is possible to turn in a document stating that you have registered for such an exam with your application as long as the exam takes place before the start of your studies.

    • Information for Swiss Citizens

      Swiss citizens with the following diplomas may study at the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences:

      1.     Eidgenössische Matura
      2.     Berufsmatura and Feststellungsprüfung
      3.     Berufsmatura plus having successfully completed one year at a Swiss university of applied sciences
      4.     Berufsmatura and TASK achievement test (only valid for the HTWG Konstanz)
      5.     German Fachhochschulreife - acquired after completing secondary school and an apprenticeship after attending a one-year Berufskolleg to gain the Fachhochschulreife status

      Please contact the Studienkolleg Konstanz to have the above-mentioned Swiss certificates (No. 1 to 4) verified.

      The Studienkolleg Konstanz will also provide you with more detailed information on having your Swiss qualifications for German universities verified as well as about the TASK exam.

    • Exchange Students from Partner Universities

      Students from our partner universities who want to study for one or two semesters at the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences need to apply at their home universities. More detailed information is available from the International Office.
