FAQ

We know that you probably have a few questions about your applications and the general admissions process at the HTWG Konstanz. In this section we have tried to summarize some of the most common queries we receive. Please take a look through the list. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to contact us.

  • Is it possible to get an early admission?

    No, unfortunately the HTWG Konstanz does not offer early admissions.

  • Which documents do I have to submit with my application?
    • Admissions applications (for online applications)
    • Verification of Student orientation exam (only available in German)
    • Verification of diplomas by the Studienkolleg Konstanz (a simple copy will suffice; no notarized or apostille copies necessary)
    • School diplomas (a simple copy will suffice; no notarized or apostille copies necessary)
    • Verification of German proficiency (DSH 2, Telc C1 universities of applied sciences, TestDaF 4.0 or comparable) – may be submitted until the start of the semester
    • CV in German
    • Residence permit (if already obtained)

  • When can I apply for the summer semester?

    The following is a list of application deadlines for the different degrees:
    - Bachelor’s programs: mid-October to January 15
    - Transfer applications for bachelor’s programs: mid-October to January 15
    - Master’s programs: mid-October to December 1

  • When can I apply for the winter semester?

    The following is a list of application deadlines for different degrees:
    - Bachelor’s programs: mid-April to July 15
    - Transfer applications for master’s programs: mid-April to July 15
    - Master’s programs: mid-April to July 1

  • What steps can I take before preparing my application?

    Please contact the Studienkolleg to have your diplomas verified ahead of time because they often receive many requests just before the application deadline. The verification is important for the application and must be submitted prior to the application deadline.

  • How do I apply to the HTWG Konstanz?

    Your application to study at the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences is completed in the following way:
    Applying for bachelor’s degrees (except Communication Design):
    1. Register at the “Hochschulstart” website
    2. Register at the HTWG Konstanz online portal
    3. Submit your application at the HTWG Konstanz online portal
    4. Print out the application for admission (from the online application), then submit this along with the verification of the student orientation test, the Studienkolleg verification of educational diplomas, proof of German proficiency, copy of school diplomas, and your curriculum vitae in German language by the following application deadlines (bachelor’s programs: July 15 (winter semester) and January 15 (summer semester): master’s programs: June 1 (winter semester) and December 1 (summer semester))
    PLEASE NOTE: these are binding deadlines. We must receive your application documents by this date.

  • How many applications can I submit to the HTWG Konstanz?

    Please take the following into consideration:

    You can apply for three bachelor’s degree programs. However, if you submit more than three, only the last three printed applications received prior to the deadline by the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences will be accepted. If multiple applications are received, only the applications for admission with the lowest application numbers will be taken into consideration. (You can submit all applications in one envelope!)

    For transfer applications to bachelor’s or master’s degree programs, only the printed applications with the lowest application number received prior to the deadline by the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences will be accepted.

    For applications to master’s degree programs, only the printed applications with the lowest application number received prior to the deadline by the HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences will be accepted.

  • Which admissions requirements apply for international applicants?

    Applicants who completed secondary school diplomas entitling studies at universities outside of Germany require the following:

    • The Studienkolleg diploma verification for the requested program
    • Verification of German proficiency (DSH 2, Telc C1 universities of applied sciences, TestDaF 4.0 or comparable) – may be submitted until the start of the semester

  • Which language certificate do I need to study at the HTWG Konstanz?

    Applicants to the HTWG Konstanz require German language skills. You can verify that you have the appropriate German level with the following language tests:

    Goethe-Zertifikat C2
    Telc C1 Hochschule
    DSH 2
    TestDaF 4,0

    It is possible to turn in your application without this German certificate. You must however submit a verification of your German level by the start of the semester at the latest (winter semester: end of September - summer semester: mid-March).
     

  • Can I apply for my studies even if I don’t have C1 German skills?

    Yes, it is possible to turn in your application without this German certificate. You must however submit a verification of your German level by the start of the semester at the latest (winter semester: end of September - summer semester: mid-March).
    You can verify that you have the appropriate German level with the following language tests:

  • How can I improve my language skills?

  • When do I have to submit my application?

    The HTWG Konstanz application deadlines are as follows:

    • The deadline for bachelor’s programs and transfer applications:
          Winter semester (semester starts on Sept. 1, classes start on approx. Oct. 1): July 15
          Summer semester (semester starts on Mar. 1, classes start on approx. Mar. 15): January 15
    • The deadline for master’s programs:
          Winter semester (semester starts on Sept. 1, classes start on approx. Oct. 1): June 1
          Summer semester (semester starts on Mar. 1, classes start on approx. Mar. 15): December 1
  • Do I need a German health insurance?

    Yes, all students at the HTWG Konstanz need to have a German health insurance. You must show proof of your health insurance plan when enrolling for classes. Student health insurance is paid monthly. The exact monthly cost of your health insurance may differ. Please contact the insurance companies directly. Some of the most common German insurance companies are the AOK, Techniker Krankenkasse, DAK-Krankenkasse, or IKK Classic.   • Do I have to pay tuition and if so, how much?

    Applicants who completed secondary school diplomas entitling studies at universities outside of Germany are normally required to pay tuition. The tuition for international students is 1,500 € per semester.
    Some students however may be exempted from tuition. These include refugees with a residence permit according to § 25 Par. 2 AufenthG, persons with a permanent residence permit, a permanent residence permit for the EU, or a residence permit according to § 30 AufenthG.

    All HTWG Konstanz students, whether or not they pay tuition, are required to pay a semester fee of 147.50 € per semester.

  • Where is my correspondence address stored and how can I change this to make sure I still receive all documents from the HTWG Konstanz if I move?

    You can change your correspondence address in the following ways:

  • When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?

    We send out letters to all applicants when the selection process has been completed. There is unfortunately no fixed timeline for this process. You can check the status of your application at the HTWG Konstanz online portal. Please keep in mind that the deadline for enrollment is normally 14 days after you have accepted our letter of admission.
