Studierendenwerk Seezeit – Office for Student Financial Aid
Educational assistance is paid starting from the beginning of the month in which the application is received by the office, but no earlier than the month in which the program begins.
- Parental Allowance
Parental allowance is a family benefit for all parents who care for their child themselves during the first few months of the child’s life. Students do not have to interrupt their studies to receive parental allowance. The amount of the parental allowance is based on the average net income for the 12 months prior to the child’s birth. Income from part-time jobs is also taken into account. The minimum monthly amount of €300 is also paid to people who were not employed before the birth. The maximum amount of parental allowance is €1,800. Parental allowance is paid for 12 or 14 months.
You must submit your application for parental allowance to the Parental Allowance Office of the State of Baden-Württemberg (L-Bank) after the child is born. The application form can be downloaded from the L-Bank website or obtained from the city or municipal offices in your place of residence.
International students are eligible for parental allowance if they are residents of Germany or have their habitual residence there. International students who hold a residence permit for study purposes based on their education are not eligible for parental allowance.
- Child Benefit
In general, all children are eligible for child benefit from birth until they turn 18. Under certain conditions, child benefit may continue to be paid beyond that age. Child benefit is paid only upon application. All parents who are residents of Germany or have their habitual residence there may submit a written application for child benefit to their local family benefits office.
- Child Supplement
The Child Supplement is a supplementary cash benefit for parents or legal guardians who receive child benefit. Low-income families can apply for this in addition to child benefit.

Students' children (up to age 10) can eat lunch for free at the Seezeit cafeterias. To do so, apply for the MensaKidsCard at the Seezeit Student Services Office.

- Maternity Benefits
Maternity benefits provide financial support during the maternity leave periods before and after childbirth, as well as on the day of childbirth, and are available to employed women. They are paid by the health insurance provider or the Federal Insurance Office.
Who is eligible for maternity benefits?
- Members of the statutory health insurance system who are entitled to sick pay, such as employees and unemployed individuals
- Members of the statutory health insurance system who are not entitled to sick pay and are in marginal employment, e.g., female students
- Women who are covered under a family policy in the statutory health insurance system and are engaged in marginal employment
- Female employees who are covered by private health insurance (it must be verified whether they are entitled to benefits) or who do not have health insurance
- Women whose employment was lawfully terminated by their employer during pregnancy
- Members of the statutory health insurance system who are not entitled to sick pay, e.g., recipients of Unemployment Benefit II
Female students who are covered under a family policy with a statutory health insurance plan and are employed (even on a part-time basis) or have been terminated with the approval of the competent authority may receive maternity benefits from the Federal Social Security Office starting at the beginning of their maternity leave.Information from the Federal Social Security Office (German)
Female students who are covered by statutory health insurance—whether voluntarily, on a mandatory basis, or through employment (including part-time or “minijob” work)—receive maternity benefits from their health insurance provider. Applications for and payment of this benefit are handled by the relevant health insurance provider. They receive a maximum of 13 euros per day (390 euros per month). If you earned more than €390 net per month, your employer must pay you the difference between your normal net pay and the maternity allowance as a supplement.
