Academic Info

This page is intended for all current HTWG Konstanz students. Here you can find answers to a wide range of practical and bureaucratic questions – ranging from your student ID and tuition fees to your internship semester.

    Re-registration Process

All students are required to re-register for classes each semester. This page provides you with all the details about the dates, process, fees, etc.

All students need to pay the semester fees of € 187.50 each semester during the re-registration period.

All students who are required to pay tuition also need to transfer this amount at this time. All requests for tuition exemption must be submitted before the start of the semester at the Registrar's Office (Studierendensekretariat).

PLEASE NOTE: Remember to use the new “intended use” when making the bank transfer. Otherwise, it will be assumed that no longer plan to continue your studies, and you will be deregistered.

    Re-registration Process

Please follow the steps below, and keep in mind that the amount for the semester fees and (if required) tuition must have been paid from your account by the last day of the re-registration period.

    1. Log on to the campus portal

    2. Open your personal invoice in the re-registration period under "Mein Studium" > "Studienservice" > "Bescheinigungen". There you will find the amount to be paid and the intended use to use for the transfer. PLEASE NOTE: The intended use for payment of tuition fees changes every semester.

    • Reasons for Unsuccessful Re-registration

If you have any questions about the new functions, please contact the registrar's office.

Example 1: Student has exceeded the permissible length of studies.

Example 2: Student has already completed their studies.

Example 3: The semester fees have not yet been received. In this case, please try again a few days later. Contact the registrar's office if you continue to receive this notification.

Example 4: Student has exceeded the normal studies period. In this case, you cannot pay the semester fees. Please contact the registrar's office.

    7. If you miss the re-registration period, you will charged a late fee of € 20, which you will need to pay before you can re-register. There will also be a deadline for paying this fee.

    8. After completing the re-registration process, please remember to validate your student ID.

    • Who needs to re-register?
      • All students who wish to continue their studies at the HTWG Konstanz after the current semester or take exams after August 31 or February 28/29.

      • Students who wish to complete other academic steps, such as submitting their bachelor’s or master’s thesis or taking an oral bachelor’s or master’s exam after August 31 or February 28/29.

      • If you are taking a leave of absence or doing your internship semester either this or in the coming semester.

      • If you are continuing in a master’s program directly after completing your bachelor’s degree (both at the HTWG Konstanz). This allows you to remain enrolled as a student, including all services (email, library, etc.). Please note: You do not need to deregister. If you re-register, the payment data in the letter of admission becomes invalid!
    • Who does NOT need to re-register?
      • Students in the Studienkolleg program

      • If you are planning to turn in your bachelor’s or master’s thesis before the end of the semester (= completing final exams by August 31 or February 28/29.) The final grade does not need to be on file by this date. You can then deregister and request a refund of your semester fees
Keep in mind: If you deregister after August 31 or February 28/29, the following semester will also count on your record.

      • If you deregister to go into effect at the end of the current semester.
    • Paying the semester fees when going directly from a bachelor’s to a master’s program

We recommend that students starting a master’s program right after completing a bachelor’s degree (both at the HTWG Konstanz) pay the semester fees and re-register.

The advantage is that you can maintain your email account and other student services. When you re-register, ignore the payment data in the letter of admission for your master’s program.

Alternative to re-registration: Pay the semester fees according to the letter of admission to your master’s program

In this case, you would pay the semester fees and not re-register.

It could happen that you do not remain enrolled for the entire period and that your email account and other student services are temporarily interrupted.

    • Re-registration when completing bachelor’s-/master’s thesis

You should re-register if you cannot complete all exams or your bachelor’s or master’s thesis by the end of the semester. The semester fees however will be refunded if you deregister (exmatriculate) within one month into the new semester. The refund form is printed on the back side of the exmatriculation form.

    When Tuition Fees are Required

Please inform us, if one of the following applies to you:

    • You completed your first degree this semester and are starting a second or additional bachelor’s or master’s program (not if enrolled in your first master’s program)
    • Your residency status has changed or was extended
    • Your residency permit used for the enrollment is no longer valid
    • You have a new/different residency permit
